Is it possible for my guinea pig to be traumatised by the death of another guinea pig ?

We got two guinea pigs on the same day but from two different shops. They got on really really well and snuggled up to each other :-) but one died two days later (apparently he picked up an internal parasite from it's breeder). The remaining guinea pig wouldn't go near the dead one and seemed terrified. We got another one about a week later so it wouldn't be lonely and they get on okay but he hasnt really taken to him as much and would snuggle up to him like he did to the one that died. I was just wondering if death affects guinea pigs ?
