Why is Australian wildlife so dangerous?

I'm sure all countries around the world have dangerous wildlife, but from what I read and hear, theres like a bajillion things in Australia that can kill you or cause lots of bodily harm(snakes, insects, jellyfish, poisonous octopi, etc). What makes the wildlife of Australia so deadly, compared to the rest of the world?
